The Healing properties of Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

The Healing properties of Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

Ginger is an amazing plant whose root has been used medicinally for centuries throughout Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, and Unani. Ayurveda regards ginger as vishwabheshaja, "universal medicine". Ginger's taste is both spicy, and sweet with warming qualities. Ginger offers the perfect merging of worlds between diet and medicine, and is very supportive during this time as the seasons change.

The warming qualities of ginger encourage the initiation and stimulation of the digestive process, prevents nausea and vomiting caused by a variety of conditions like morning sickness in pregnancy, and symptoms of nausea from chemotherapy. Ginger may treat stomach ulcers, and hinders the formation of harmful bacteria. Its antioxidant properties help protect cells from free radical damage, it reduces inflammation, as well as carcinogenic activity. It is a pain reliever that offers regenerative qualities to damaged tissues spanning across conditions such as arthritis, degenerated joints, obstructed airway (conditions like asthma), or even an organ recovering from cancer. Ginger also enhances cardiovascular health, encourages blood flow, and may reduce high blood pressure. Ginger may aid in the clearing of congested sinuses, and help relieve pressure in your head due to mucous build up.
